It’s been over six months since my wife, Nicci, and I watched the last of of our “30 Chick Flicks in 30 Days“, but the results of the challenge are ongoing.

The most recent example reached me via email approximately one month ago.

A mother in Romania wrote to share with us that she, and her daughter had a chick flick experience all their own.

Here is what she said… Read the rest of this entry »

Day 29 — “Valentine’s Day”

Some of you have suggested on Twitter that a movie based upon a book should be able to stand on its own.

A person should be able to watch a motion picture without having first read the literature that inspired it. Likewise, a book should be free of a movie to define its existence.

With that said, I feel like I missed something from the beginning of “The Time Traveler’s Wife“. It’s as if I missed the first 30 minutes of this film, or another movie (a prequel) altogether. Read the rest of this entry »

Big dreams live in small towns; roller derby girls do, too.

While I know little about the sport, I do know that Oklahoma (my home state) has three roller derby amateur leagues.

According to one league’s Twitter page bio, the Oklahoma City Roller Derby has been “turning wimpy little OKC girls into women since 2006.”

My wife, and I have plans to go watch a local roller derby match this year now thanks to this movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 16 — “Leap Year”

“Always, always, always a bridesmaid” read the headline from the article written by James Marsden’s character, Kevin, about Katherine Heigl’s character, Jane.

Aside from the spattering of weddings, this movie is chock-full of the fabric worn by women to commemorate matrimony.

Even more specifically, the duds worn by a perpetual bridesmaid, Jane; hence the name, “27 Dresses“.

Admittedly, I had given little thought to the complexities of being a bride, much less a bridesmaid, prior to this film. Read the rest of this entry »

My wife, and I plan to watch the motion picture from a DVD loaned to us by family. Note: of the 47 “eligible” chick flicks suggested to watch, “27 Dresses” was the most recommended.
